Enjoying Deepawali:the festival of light at home

Light plays in my house in Assam,India on November 5

Welcome Deepawali:the festival of light in India on November 5

Reply to my friends

Remember, few days back I uploaded a picture of hatching cobra eggs left behind by mother cobra.(Its the natural way that young cobras take care of themselves after coming out of shells and mother cobra only lays eggs.)
All about Cobras: Cobra, scientifically known as Naja naja, is one of the poisonous snake species native to the Indian subcontinent. It grows to an average height of 1 m and has two circular ocelli patterns on the rear of its hood. These patterns seem to be connected by a curved line, giving the look of spectacles. This is why the snake is also known as the Spectacled Cobra of India. A newborn cobra measures between 20 to 30 cm, but has fully functional venom glands.
Mating Behavior
Cobra snake lays its eggs during the period of April to July. ( in my case it was in September and number of eggs were 10))The eggs, numbering between 12 and 30 eggs, are laid underground. The incubation period lasts for 48 to 69 days.
Diet
Spectacled Cobra of India survives on a diet consisting mainly of rodents.

See the difference between the eggs.

I am happy that young cobras are all safe and have started exploring the world of their own.Mind it,the bite of the baby cobra could too be fatal. Surprisingly, if the mother meets the young ones, she might eat them.Strange rule of nature...

NB:The photos were taken in my residence.I along with my family like to live in the midst of nature and wild life.Cobra and other reptiles, foxes, wild birds etc can roam free in my campus (a mini forest). They never disturb us neither do we.Peace ful co-existence,you can say.
