Assam Janasanyog minister meets JNV students at Kalaigaon

Basanta Das,Minister of State (Ind),Janasanyog and Fishery of Assam ,Thaneswar Malakar,DC,Udalguri and Mukunda Ram Choudhury,MLA,Kalaigaon met students,teachers and guardians of Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Darrang at Kalaigaon,on the occasion of the closing ceremony of NE Regional Kabaddi Meet (for girls) on April 27.Attending the closing ceremony as the chief guest minister Bsanta Das inaugurated the girls Kabaddi final match between Manipur and Dibgugarh clusters,after taking salute of the 113 numbers of participating girls belonging to five clusters,namely- Guwahati,Manipur,Silchar,Shillong and Dibrugarh.Speaking on the occasion,Minister Das expressed his satisfactionat the excellent academic atmosphere in the JNV Kalaigaon campus. He also shared a few moments of his students life with the students. He assured students and people of Kalaigaon that he would do his best for the construction of a new RCC bridge over river Noa on the approaching road to JNV Kalaigaon campus. Mukunda Ram Choudhury,MLA of Kalaigaon LAC,attending the closing ceremony as the distinguished guest gratefully remembered the contribution of late freedom fighter Pani Ram Das of Kalaigaon in the process of establishment of JNV Kalaigaon at the present site. Thaneswar Malakar,noted writer and Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district also attended the closing ceremony as the distinguished guest.He requested students of all the JNVs to spare a few moments for the conservation of flora and fauna along with their normal activities.He remarked that students life is incomplete without regular games and sports activities. Madhab Sarma,Principal,JNV,Kalaigaon in his thanks giving address gave an account of the school.According to him,the school was established at Kalaigaon in 1995.The school was alter shifted to its permanent site of 100 bigha campus in 2001.Other distinguished personalities who attended the closing ceremony were -Dr.Biren Deka,Principal, Mangaldai B.Ed College,Mrs.Nair,Principal,JNV,Udalguri and Bhargab Kumar Das,senior journalist of Darrang district.

Newly weds commit suicide at Kalaigaon

In a tragic incident one Dipankar Nath (22) and his newly wed wife Durga Deka Nath (19), son and daughter-in-law of Bolo Ram Nath of village No.2 Kalaigaon, under Kalaigaon police station committed suicide togather on April 21 at 6-30 PM. The couple was married on March 14,this year only. The bodies of the couple were seen hanging from the ceiling of their living room in embracing position. The cause of the tragic incident is yet to know,but it has created sensation in the area. The dead bodies have already been sent to Udalguri Civil Hospital for post mortem.

4 NDFB (R) surrendered at Udalguri

Another milestone of peace was added to Udalguri with the ceremonial surrender of four cadres belonging to Ranjan Daimari faction of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) today here at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district.Thaneswar Malakr, Deputy Commissioner and Satyajit Nath,Addl SP of Udalguri district thanked the 3 Assam Rifles stationed at Mazbat for its untiring effort to bring Biraj Basumatary (22), of Satiya in Sonitpur district and a Myanmar trained cadet of the outfit of its 35 Batch, Naresh Basumatary(21) of Tamulpur, Baksa, a cadet of 35 batch of the outfit trained in Myanmar,Umesh Basumatary (20) of Gandhibari of Baksa district trained in Bangladesh and Tarun Narzary of Dhekiajuli trained in Bangladesh for their wishes to return to normal life by surrendering with four hand grenades, four live cartridges, four fuses, one magazine of pistol and a 9mm pistol.The surrender ceremony was also addressed by MP Sarmah, PD,DRDA,Udalguri,while Major Binod of 3 Assam Rifles (Naga Hills) and Palash Ahom Rajkumar, EAC were also present on the occasion. It is to be noted that, four such other NDFB cadres belonging to Ranjan Daimari faction had already surrendered with arms on September 17, November 16 in 2011, March 27 and April 3 this year to the district administration

Wild tusker found dead near Bornadi WLS in Assam

A full grown wild tusker has been found dead at Neewly PRF to the south of Samrang close to Bornadi Wildlife Sanctuary in Udalguri district today morning. It is suspected to be killed by people as the dead body of the tusker bore several injury marks.The injured tusker was seen last week at Khoirani area near Samrang forest. According to nature loving people it could have been saved had it been treated last week. So far 23 wild elephants had been dead in Udalguri district alone in just two years causing serious concern.
