Jawan killed by militants in Kashmir cremated with state honour at Bhergaon in Assam

Prabin Das,Sepoy No.4375845Y of 16 Assam regiment who had been one among eight army jawans killed by militants in Srinagar on June 24 was cremated here at Ghogapara village near Sub-divisional HQ Bhergaon on June 27 with full state honour. When the body of the brave hero was brought home by army, his mother,who sells road side tea was crying at the loss of her son. Holding a photo of her son 61 years old Sewali Das was in tears while narrating her sons sad story. Locals told that Prabin had been a meritorious student in school.But he could not continue higher study due to poverty.So after passing HS final he joined Indian army. Villagers still remember Prabin encouraging other village boys to join Indian army to serve motherland. Thousands thronged to funeral site to pay last respect to the brave son of the soil. Among them were Lwmsrao Daimari, EM,BTC; Anil Deuri,SDO (civil) Bhergaon; Lt.Col. Fertado of Red Horns Division etc.

Ananta Ram Das literary award 2013 to Thaneswar Malakar

People of Udalguri district expressed happiness at Thaneswar Malakar,DC Udalguri receiving Ananta Ram Das literary award 2013.Eminent writer, scholar and an administrator known for his people friendly nature and activities Thaneswar Malakar has added another feather on his cap as he has been nominated for the award. This has been disclosed by Ananta Ram Das memorial Publication. Earlier Thaneswar Malakar who has earned a high reputation for his integrity and dedication to the service and known for his development works was awarded the prestigious ‘Hem Barua literary award for best travelogue’ instituted by Axom Xahitya Xabha (AXX) for his travelogue “Yatra”. The AXX has been instituting the award in memory of veteran Parliamentarian known for his eloquence Hem Barua and conferred the award on Thaneswar Malakar who has been rendering his sincere service as the Deputy Commissioner in Udalguri district on February 4 last in the open session of AXX held at Barpeta Road in Lower Assam. The Ananta Ram Das Memorial publication has been conferring the award every year to an eminent writer, artiste or an drama personality of the state in recognition of their talents and creativity. Meanwhile various organizations including media organizations and students’ organizations and all section of the society in Udalguri district have expressed their pleasure and congratulated the Deputy Commissioner Malakar on being conferred this prestigious honour on him. Wild elephant trapped in a tea garden trench rescued at Bhutiachang

A wild female elephant which had fallen into deep tea garden trench in Bhutiachang tea garden (section 24) was successfully rescued in the afternoon of June 14. According to information a herd of wild elephant numbering more than forty was seen roaming in and around Bhutiachang te garden since last week. The herd was quite peaceful and friendly to people. Tea garden workers found one mature female wild elephant in a deep trench in the morning of June 14. The animal was in upside down pointing all the legs to sky. The herd and the victim tried in vain to stand on her legs for several hours without success. It had been a touching sight in the afternoon to see the members of the herd leave her giving way to people to start rescue operation.
Tea garden management of Bhutiachang offered all necessary help in rescuing the trapped animal. The joint effort of civil, forest, police and tea garden workers finally bore fruit and the elephant was able to stand on her legs to join her dear herd. The whole rescue operation was supervised by -Girindra Adhikari,DFO,Dhansiri Forest Division, Udalguri; DN Hazarika,Circle Officer, Harisinga Revenue Circle and A Das,Manager, Bhutiachang TE. The incident has been considered very significant at a time when man-elephant conflict has taken serious turn in the district causing death of three man and one wild elephant in this month.

Wild elephant kills 1 more in Udalguri district

In another tragic incident one Indrajit Sarma (32) of Kasubil village under Paneri Police Station has been mysteriously killed by a wild elephant at Jorapukhuri village yesterday evening at 7 pm on June 9. The body was recovered later at night.Excited unruly villagers physically assaulted forest personnels at Paneri causing damage to Paneri forest office.It was not known why the person had visited the remote area in night time.According to information he had been accompanied by another person. It needs mention that wild elephants had killed two persons at Coramore the previous night. Green Society,Udalguri and Green Valley Forest and Wildlife Protection Society,Nonaipar appeal BTC authority to take up early preventing measures so as to minimize man elephant conflict.

Wild elephants killed two in Udalguri district

In a tragic incident wild elephants killed two people at Coramore on June 8.According to information two strayed wild elephants had been roaming in and around Coramore area for two days. Yesterday evening both the wild elephants arrived at Ambasa line of Coramore tea garden looking for food. The elephants tried to break houses and in the process instantly killed one Jonak Tete (21) son of Gabriel at Ambasa line and another Chandra Das (52) at Sangrila line at around 7.30 pm on June 8. It needs mention that wild elephants had killed 12 and injured 16 people in Udalguri district in the year 2012. Environmental organisations like Green Society and Green Valley Forest and Wildlife Protection Society of the district appeal forest department and BTC authority to take early preventing measures so as to minimize causality of both man and elephant.

WE Day observed at Kalaigaon and Tangla

People of Kalaigaon and Tangla observed World Environment Day with various programmes. At Kalaigaon the programme was organised by Kalaigaon College authority in association with Dhansiri Forest Division,Udalguri.Arabinda Das, Principal of Kalaigaon College inaugurated the plantation drive at 11 am. Nearly six hundred students,teachers forest personel and media persons joined hands to plant nearly two hundred saplings. An awareness meeting was held at college hall at 1 pm which was presided over by Arabinda Das, Principal of the college. On the occasion he thanked forest deptt. for help and cooperation in organising the programme at Kalaigaon. He said that he would work for the declaration of Kalaigaon College as a bio-diversity enriched 'Green College”. The awareness meeting was also addressed by Jayanta Das,Hony Wildlife Warden,Udalguri; Dimbeswar Das,Range Officer,Bhergaon and Krishna Barua,Social Service secretary of Kalaigaon College. At Tangla,WE Day was observed with various events.The central programme was organised at Tangla Model High School premise by Tangla administration headed by DN Hazarika, Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle. Several saplings were planted in the school campus in the morning.Nearly four hundred tree saplings were also distributed among students. Environmentalist Debanga Mahalia conducted a quiz competition on nature and wildlife. Prof.Binoy Medhi former Principal,Tangla College attended the open session as the appointed speaker.He advised all to plant fruit trees in the vacant land for wild animals and birds. Prof.Medhi said that there were no short cut to solve 'Man-elephant Conflict' and people must learn to live with others animals and birds.
