WE Day observed at Kalaigaon and Tangla

People of Kalaigaon and Tangla observed World Environment Day with various programmes. At Kalaigaon the programme was organised by Kalaigaon College authority in association with Dhansiri Forest Division,Udalguri.Arabinda Das, Principal of Kalaigaon College inaugurated the plantation drive at 11 am. Nearly six hundred students,teachers forest personel and media persons joined hands to plant nearly two hundred saplings. An awareness meeting was held at college hall at 1 pm which was presided over by Arabinda Das, Principal of the college. On the occasion he thanked forest deptt. for help and cooperation in organising the programme at Kalaigaon. He said that he would work for the declaration of Kalaigaon College as a bio-diversity enriched 'Green College”. The awareness meeting was also addressed by Jayanta Das,Hony Wildlife Warden,Udalguri; Dimbeswar Das,Range Officer,Bhergaon and Krishna Barua,Social Service secretary of Kalaigaon College. At Tangla,WE Day was observed with various events.The central programme was organised at Tangla Model High School premise by Tangla administration headed by DN Hazarika, Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle. Several saplings were planted in the school campus in the morning.Nearly four hundred tree saplings were also distributed among students. Environmentalist Debanga Mahalia conducted a quiz competition on nature and wildlife. Prof.Binoy Medhi former Principal,Tangla College attended the open session as the appointed speaker.He advised all to plant fruit trees in the vacant land for wild animals and birds. Prof.Medhi said that there were no short cut to solve 'Man-elephant Conflict' and people must learn to live with others animals and birds.
