DKN distributed financial aids to poor and sick students at Kalaigaon

In a noble and unique attempt to share feelings and emotion of poor and sick students and to encourage them to move forward in their daily struggle, members of a Kalaigaon based organisation distributed cash aids to a few sick and poor students at Kalaigaon on June 29. The function was organised by the members of DKN (Durgat Kalyan Nyas) and was presided over by its founder president DN Hazarika,Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle. Lohit Chandra Nath,secretary of the Nyas introduced all the distinguished guests before felicitating them with a japi and gamocha each. On the occasion he recounted the story of the formation of the Nyas in 2007.He said that it was a spontaneous move of a few kind hearted people of Kalaigaon who had come forward to help the sick who never qualify for government norms. Attending the function as a distinguished guest Jagadish Sarkar,MCLA,BTC thanked members of the Nyas for their contribution which would show rays of hope to those who had lost hopes in life. Prabhat Narayan Choudhury,Mouzadar,Mangaldai also known as poet, actor,writer and composer as another guest thanked members of the Nyas.He said,” Rapid social changes have taken away morality from people causing others to suffer”. Newly elected Rajya Sabha MP from Assam,Santias Kunjur attending the function as the chief guest shared his happiness with people present saying that it had been a rare moment in his life to meet people forming a Nyas with pocket money to help poor and sick. He further said that people of today hardly wait to help somebody in distress may be some one seriously injured in road accidents crying for help.He volunteered to be a member of the Nyas. Former chairperson of Assam Woman Commission Mridula Saharia, thanking people of Kalaigaon she proudly mentioned names of great social workers of Kalaigaon freedom fighter late Pani Ram Das and late Dr.Hara Nath Hazarika.She also said that she had great respect for people of Kalaigaon and Tangla as she was brought up at Kalaigaon when her father had been serving as SDC at Kalaigaon during British rule. Social worker Dr.Dipankar Saharia and Hony.Wildlife Warden Jayanta Das also attended and addressed the function as special guests.They too thanked people of Kalaigaon for joining hands to help poor and sick students. They also offered to join the Nyas as members. The financially weak meritorious students numbering ten were given cash aids of rupees four thousands each while three critically ill children were given financial aids of rupees three thousand each. Kamal Prasad Sarma,Mouzadar,Kalaigaon offered vote of thanks at the end before distribution of two hundred saplings to all present.He also thanked R.Konwar, Range Officer of Khalingduar Reserve Forest and his staff for sponsoring the saplings.
