Four killed by wild elephants in Udalguri

Man-elephant conflict has taken a serious turn in Udalguri district following deaths of four more persons in a single night. So far 16 people have been killed by wild elephants this year living near Indo-Bhutan brder. According to information a few wild elephants killed Kulbahadur Rai (60) and Jaybahadur Rai (38) in Raibasti village (No.3 Kundarbil new village) at around 9.30 PM yesterday night on September 12. It has been alleged that the same wild elephants again attacked other people of Dhepabasti village near SSB camp killing two more persons namely – Labanya Chao (52) and Boiler (32) at around 11 pm. All the persons died on spot. It needs mention that the same wild elephant had killed Ratul Boro (26) at No.4 Amjuli and seriously injured Gudu Chouhan (30) at Section No.13 of Bhutiachang TE few days back. The human causalities would have been more had two Kunkis provided by WWF to prevent wild elephants intervened in time.So far WWF has provided 5 Kunki elephants in the district to protect villagers . Nature loving people of Udalguri urge BTC authority immediately to take steps to protect lives and property of the villagers and to ensure safety of wild elephants.In the mean time Girindra Adhikari, DFO,Dhansiri Forest Division,Udalguri and DN Hazarika, Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle have visited the sites to take necessary action.
