Students urged to be the helping hands of society

"Students of present day society could very well play vital role in molding their own families as well as the societies they live".This was observed by educationist Nabin Chandra Boro,Inspector of Schools,(Retd),Udalguri district at a students function at Kalaigaon on September 25 while he was addressing students, teachers and guardians on the occasion of freshman social celebration of Jnandeep Junior College,Kalaigaon. According to him,students now a days enjoy much privileges and facilities,like smart phones,laptops,bikes etc at hands which had not even been heard of by students in past days. Nabin Boro advised students to be careful in choosing own careers as well as responsible to fellow villagers and society as a whole.Earlier in the day,various events were organized by the students and teachers which had commenced with the hosting of the college flag by Kanseswar Deka,principal of the college at 9 am.The open session was held at 1 pm which was anchored by Sangeeta Deka,lecturer of the college.The open session was also addressed by -Kami Ram Saharia,social worker; Manoranjan Sarma,principal (Retd),North Darrang College, Tangla;Jayanta Kumar Das,wildlife activist;Sukleswar Deka and Khagen Saharia.Bhargabjyoti Boro and Dolly Deka were awarded with Mr and Miss GJC respectively for 2017.

OIL Duliajan lifts Bodoland Gallants Gold Cup Football at Dimakuchi

Oil India Ltd football eleven,Duliajan lifts 22nd Bodoland Gallants Gold Cup Football Tournament played at Dimakuchi in Udalguri district today on September 24 defeating Reserve Bank of India,Mumbai by 4-1 goals in the final.More than fifty thousand people enjoyed the final match.The trophy carries with a cash amount of rupees fifty thousand. Rahul Das of Oil India team was adjusted best player of the final match.The tournament was organised by Dimakuchi Anchalik Committee,ABSU and Dimakuchi Sports Association. Biswajit Daimary,MP (RS) attended as the chief guest.Ganesh Kachary, EM,BTC and Mohesor Boro,MLA,Kalaigaon were also present.

Kalaigaon girl Manashi qualifies for Voice of India kids

People of Kalaigaon hail Manashi Saharia a talented class six student of Udmari village in Kalaigaon for being qualified for the final round of audition in the Voice of India KIDS 2017 sponsored by Essel Vision Production,a Mumbai based TV production company. Daughter of musician parents Anupam Saharia and Jitu Moni Saharia of Udmari village,near Kalaigaon,Manashi had earlier qualified in the preliminary audition for North East region on September 3 in Guwahati.Later she could prove her talents in the eastern zone audition held in Kolkata city on September 11 to be qualified for the national audition to be held in Mumbai this month.It needs mentioning that she was adjudged as the Voice of Darrang twice also securing first position in the All Assam Jyoti Sangeet competition held at Rabindra Bhawan,Guwahati. Her father Anupam Saharia has been a well known artist in tabla and drum while mother Jitumoni Saharia is a singer with a music degree in classical music as one of the feather of her wings. Manashi has left for Mumbai today on September 23.People of Darrang and Udalguri have expressed best wishes to Manashi.

Launching Swachata Hi Sewa in Udalguri

On the occasion of "Swatchata Hi Sewa" celebration,the Udalguri district administration organized various programmes in the district including ceremonial distribution of grants of aids to affected people of the district.The central programme was held at Bhupen Hazarika Mukali Mancha,Harisinga on September 20.The days programme was started with the cleanliness drive at Harisinga hospital launched by Rihon Daimari, Minister, PHE,Food & Civil Supply,Assam at 11 am followed by the grants and aids distribution ceremony at 12 am.BJ Manta, ADC,Udalguri cum Project Director,i/c,DRDA,Udalguri conducted the oath taking ceremony where all people including the minister and officials took the pledge of keeping of houses and villages clean.They also took the pledge of discarding polythene items for a pollution free society.Speaking about the implementation of new mission "Swatchata Hi Sewa" in the district,Sadhana Hojai,Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri welcomed all the distinguished guests and people present.Minister Rihon Daimari attended the ceremony as the chief guest.On the occasion he spoke on the need for involving common people in the mission.The meeting was also attended by Nitin Khade, Secretary to the government of Assam,Information and Technology Department;Maheswar Boro,MLA, Kalaigaon; Suresh Tanti,MCLA,BTC etc besides several hundred people mostly woman.The Minister ceremonially distributed rehabilitation grants to 940 storm affected families of the district.Ex-gratia grants of rupees five lakhs each were distributed to four families whose kith and kins were missing due to social disturbances in the past years.The minister also ceremoniously distributed Revolving Funds to selected SHO village organizations and Community Investment Fund of rupees 2.5 lakhs each to selected beneficiaries.A discussion was also held later at Udalguri Circuit House where Rihon Daimary said that he would take steps to promote eco-tourism in picturesque villages bordering Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh with introduction of "Home Stay" amenities to tourists.Deputy Commissioner and PD,Udalguri also present in the discussion with environment and wildlife activist.

22nd Bodoland Gallants Gold Cup Football at Dimakuchi

Oil India,Duliajan and Laban Sports Club,Shillong will clash in the first semi final of the 22nd Bodoland Gallants Gold Cup Football tournament being played at Dimakuch stadium in Udalguri district tomorrow on September 21.In today's last quarter final match SSB, Siliguri defeated Jhalaguti Sports Club,Morigaon by 3-0 goals in a well attended match.The final match will be played on September 24.

Attempt to make football popular in villages

In an attempt to make football popular among youths in the rural areas,the Darrang District BPF has taken up a few novel schemes to promote football in Darrang and Udalguri districts.A district level football competition in memory of late Chandika Barua and Late Jogamaya Kalita was organized in remote Bokrajhar village on Darrang Udalguri border recently.The final match was played between Namkhola and Rajapukhuri on September 17 at Bokrajhar village play ground in presence of several thousands of spectators.Maheswar Boro,MLA, Kalaigaon attended the final match as the chief guest. Mahesh Deka,secretary of Darrang district BPF committee,on the occasion declared that BPF would give priority in making provisions for football and volley ball facilities in the villages of both Darrang and Udalguri districts.In the final match Rajapukhuri boys beat Namkhola boys by 2-0 goals.

Officials expelled from AASU in Udalguri

In a sensational move AASU Udalguri district committee has expelled four top officals of AASU Kalaigaon anchalik committee including its president and secretary for anti constitutional activities.In a press release issued by Pranjal Patowari,
president and Saiful Haque, secretary of AASU Udalguri district committee,it was declared thatManoj Kumar Deka,Advisor;Gauri Kanta Nath,president;Ranjan Sarma,secretary and Nilotpal Hazarika,Asstt secretary of AASU Kalaigaon anchalik committee have been expelled from the primary membership of AASU and the executive committee has also been dissolved with immediate effect.The press release further stated that tough actions had to be taken against the officials for their anti AASU activities thereby damaging image of AASU.According to information from reliable sources,it is known that said AASU leaders demanded strict action against BDO of Kalaigaon block and president of Kalaigaon VCDC for substandard construction work of CC tapping of a road at Kalaigaon town in which an amount of nearly fifty lakhs of rupees had allegedly been misappropriated by officials and contractors.The ABVP Kalaigaon unit too submitted allegation to the Assam CM for proper investigation and action in the matter.But it was alleged that AASU leaders seemed loosing interest in the matter and according to local news sources huge amounts of cash had been exchanged between officials and members of some organizations.

Organ donation camp held at Tangla

In order to create awareness among people on cadaver organ donation specially among youths,'Rising Hands',an NGO of Tangla in association with Zublee Foundation,organized a programme on cadaver organ donation at Tangla recently on September 15.Teachers and school children were present mostly at the awareness meet besides other citizens to understand and support the cause of organ donation.Several distinguished people attended the meet including Zublee Baruah,playback singer and head of Zublee Foundation; Amitabh Gohain,Director and CEO of the foundation and Priyanka Baruah. Addressing the gathering mostly to students Zublee said that teens must understand organ donation first and then to create awareness among people.She said that organ donation was vital to meet the dearths of millions due to organ failure.Supporting the organ donation campaign in Assam Priyanka Barua,CEO of the organization requested people to draw the attention of the government to take necessary steps to make Cadaver Organ Donation possible in Assam.The meet was inaugurated by social worker Boli Ram Deka which was also addressed by Dr.Bijoy Chakravorty, Superitendent, Tangla CHC;Dr.Nirmal Beria, Joint Director of Health Mangaldai Civil Hospital.A voluntary blood donation camp was also organized by Rising Hands NGO in association with Mangaldai Civil Hospital.According to Bikram Das of Rising Hands NGO, 35 people pledged their organs and nearly 60 persons voluntarily participated in the blood donation camp.

Seminar on sports journalism held at Bhergaon

A day long seminar on sports journalism was held at the Conference Hall of the office of the SDO (Civil),Bheraon sub-division on September 15 with day long activities.The seminar titled-"Sports Journalism as a Medium for Skill Development for the Human Resources of Assam" was organized by Assam Sports Journalist Association in collaboration with State Level Advisory Committee (Students and Youth Welfare),Govt of Assam and in association with Bhergaon civil administration and Bhergaon Press Club.The seminar was meant for students interested in sports journalism and for the creation of a sporting atmosphere in the society for the promotion of games and sports and health care in villages.On the spot sports news writing competition marked the beginning of the seminar which was inaugurated by DN Hazarika,SDO (Civil),Bhergaon sub-division at 9.30 am followed by the seminar on sports journalism. Swapnanil Barua, Commissioner,Sports & Youth Welfare and Industries of Assam (Rtd) inaugurated the seminar at 10.30 am. Thanking the organizers for the arrangement of the seminar in rural Bhergaon area he said that sports journalism could play a vital role in motivating students to choose sports journalism as a career in life and to find out hidden sports talents in the villages.The seminar was also addressed by Subodh Malla Barua,president,All India Sports Journalist Federation; Prathana Hazarika of DD Sports;Pabitra Gogoi of The Assam Tribune and noted photographer Samsul Huda Patgiri.

Biodiversity workshop held in JFMC,Bhairabkunda in Udalguri

A field base biodiversity workshop for college students,HoD of Botany and Zoology departments of colleges,officials of environmental NGOs of Darrang and Udalguri districts was held in JFMC man made forest at Bhairabkunda near Assam-Bhtan-Arunachal border meet point on September 14 with day long activities.The activities were organized by ATREE (Ashoka Trust For Research in Ecology and the Environment) in association with Aryabhatta Science Centre (ASTEC,Assam),Udalguri district branch and Udalguri district administration.The inaugural ceremony of the workshop was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri at 10 am.Jayanta Das of ASC,Udalguri welcomed all the distinguished guests and participants from Darrang and Udalguri distric before explaining the need for the launching of the Assam Biodiversity Portal (ABP) by ATREE.Sadhana Hojai,Deputy Commissioner,Udalguri inaugurated the workshop.Thanking ATREE and Aryabhatta Science Centres of ASTEC for organizing the workshop in Udalguri district,she said that students must must be involved in the biodiversity conservation activities so as to encourage them to explore undiscovered species of flora and fauna of both Darrang and Udalguri district.BJ Manta,ADC,Udalguri; MK Sarma,DFO,Dhansiri Forest Division,Udalguri;Dipen Boro,vice president,ABSU state committee; Dr.Rohit Daimary,HoD,Botany,Udalguri College also attended the inaugural ceremony.
Rohit George,NE Coordinator of ATREE conducted the technical session both in the conference hall and in the JFMC forest in Bhairabkunda. Teachers and students from Mangaldai College,Tangla College,Udalguri College,Udalguri HSS participated in the technical field activities under the supervision of Rohit George of ATREE and convener of Assam Biodiversity Portal.He demonstrated how to upload photos of any species of flora and fauna in the ABP website for the benefit of all.Leena Saikia (Mangaldai College),Anima Bhuyan Barua (HoD,Zoology,Tangla College),Sarojini Talukdar (HoD,Botany,Tangla College) assisted Rohit George in the field activities.Ismail Daimary,Secretary, JFMC,Bhairabkunda spoke on the history of the picturesque man made forest with an area of 5500 bigha lands touching Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh.With more than 15 lakhs of well grown tree saplings planted by its members since 2007.He said that wild elephants, leopards,deer,pythons,wild boar etc have started taking shelter in the JFMC bringing a ray of hope amid destruction of forest and wildlife in Assam.Conservation activists and senior journalists Bhargab Kumar Das,Mayukh Goswami and Ganesh Dutta (from Darrang) and wildlife activist Nerkhang Khaklari,Debashis Phukan,Raj D Mushahary etc (Udalguri) also attended.BJ Manta,ADC Udalguri distributed the certificates of participation at the end.
